James Robie
Creative Director
A graduate of Yale University, I have been involved in graphic design for thirty years. Prior to establishing James Robie Design Associates (JRDA) in 1978, I worked as a freelance designer on various accounts including the Pasadena Museum of Art, Gemini GEL, ARCO and Teledyne.
Since 1978, I have developed corporate identity and marketing materials including annual reports and specialized promotional items for PIMCO, The J Paul Getty Trust, TRW, Continental Development Corporation, The Los Angeles Olympic Organizing Committee, Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, Teledyne Technologies, William Mercer, Los Angeles Convention Center, Mattel, Pacific Coast Capital and Manning Selvage and Lee.
Included in the identity programs I have designed are The Los Angeles Convention Center, Allegheny Technologies, Center Trust, Beckson Design Associates, Manning Selvage & Lee, Buono Forchetta, Paladin, Amateur Athletic Foundation, Dainties Cupcakes and The Hump and Typhoon restaurants.
I am currently a design consultant for Teledyne Technologies, Kids in Sports, Paladin Realty Advisors, Griffin Capital, Continental Development Corporation and The Amateur Athletic Foundation, now known as the LA84 Foundation.
My work has appeared in numerous magazines including CA, Print, Abitare and has been included in many design books including Graphic Design: Los Angeles and Hot California Designers, and Design USA published in 2006 and soon to be released Design USA 3 both published by Graphis. From 1992-1997 I was a design instructor at the Otis College of Art and Design in Los Angeles.
I have experience in many different industries and organizations including real estate and development, aerospace and high-tech, financial, cultural and a variety of non-profits foundations.
I have built a reputation for effective award-winning work, integrity, and sound designer-client relationships. These long-term client relationships are the result of communication solutions that produce projects that are truly successful.
My design philosophy is simple. Create meaningful, smart, quality design that provides clients with the materials to communicate their ideas and information effectively in a clear and professional manner. It is grounded in classic principles of design, emphasizing clarity, which is the result of proper fusion between form and content.
